Meet George: Director, Lead Physiotherapist and the Warm Heart of Our Clinic!

‘I've always been fascinated by the human body. As a child, I would spend hours looking through my mum's nursing textbooks, captivated by the photographs and amazed at how the body works. By the age of 12, I could name every bone in the body! From my early school days, I knew I wanted a career in physiotherapy. It wasn't a love of sport that inspired me, but a genuine desire to help people feel better, move better and live life to the fullest.’

George Hollinrake, Director, Lead Physiotherapist at Bank on Movement, Hope Valley

I'm George, founder and lead physiotherapist at Bank On Movement. I've been a physiotherapist for over 26 years (where has that time gone?!), and during that time I've been fortunate to work across the NHS, private hospitals and private practice. My experience has taken me from paediatrics to elderly care, covering orthopaedics, musculoskeletal injuries, post-operative rehabilitation, long-term pain, mobility challenges and much more. Along the way, I've also gained valuable experience in medical and surgical settings, learning disabilities, mental health and chronic pain management.

My approach is firmly rooted in the biopsychosocial model, but above all, it's centered around listening. Every person who walks through the door has their own story, goals and challenges, so I take the time to really get to know you before we decide on the best way forward. I believe physiotherapy is about more than treating symptoms—it's about giving people the understanding, confidence and tools they need to take control of their health and keep doing the things they love.

After spending 14 wonderful years as part of Activ, I was incredibly excited to launch Bank On Movement—a clinic that truly reflects who we are and how we want people to feel when they come to see us. While our name has changed, our commitment hasn't. You'll still receive the same friendly, compassionate and evidence-based care that has always been at the heart of what we do. This new chapter gives us the opportunity to grow, introduce new services, continue investing in our professional development and support even more people within our local community.

Outside of work, life is wonderfully busy! I'm married to my long-suffering husband, Stuart, and we're kept on our toes by our two rapidly growing children, along with our dog and cat. I love anything disco-related, enjoy crafting and gardening, and have a real passion for being part of our local community. You'll often find me helping at local car boot sales or lending a hand with the school PTA.

When it comes to keeping myself healthy, I practise what I preach. I believe strength and conditioning are essential for maintaining long-term health and independence, and I try to keep my own mobility topped up with regular yoga. I also love running, walking the dog and paddleboarding around the beautiful Peak District, which I'm incredibly lucky to call home.

Whether you're recovering from an injury, living with a long-term condition or simply wondering whether physiotherapy could help, I'd love to meet you. My aim is to make every person who walks through our doors feel welcome, listened to and supported from the very first appointment. Together, we'll work towards helping you move with confidence and get back to doing the things that matter most to you.
